Our musical theatre courses are like no other offered in Mississauga! For the past 5 years, we have been made famous by our “instructive theatrical courses” helping kids & teens to improve in their performance skills as we coach them and give them the tools they need to become a triple threat. We cast them in a role appropriate to their skill level and help them grow throughout the course to be ready to perform under lights and in costume in a real theatre! The Wizard of Oz Ages 6-18 Beginner to Advanced
14 weeks, September to December Questions? Call 647-892-5582 (LJTC) ext. 201 or see below for more info. We have altered the format of our Musical Theatre Program to cater to the ensemble roles, as this production is wonderfully ensemble heavy and enchanting! We have increased the rehearsing frequency, as it will require much practice & dedication. * Younger students (ages 6-7) are permitted to leave week-night rehearsals early to accommodate bed times. Please let us know if this is a need for your child. * Every week each cast will rehearse once with it’s own cast, and once with other casts with the same roles. * We are adding songs and scenes for Glinda and The Wicked Witch, as well as added lines of dialogue and a song for the Munchkins & Ozians. * Our sibling discount has increased to 15%. * What is the difference between Intensive 1 & Intensive 2? Intensive 1 is for beginner to intermediate level performers. Anyone auditioning for an Intensive 2 role who isn’t chosen for one of the only ten Intensive 2 roles will be automatically be put into Intensive 1. This is for those who have been with us for a few years and are still growing and those who have never acted before. Intensive 1 students will have a lot of stage time- have multiple roles, songs and choreography and are therefore required to be at rehearsals 2x week. Our aim is to challenge every performer according to their level. Where a child may be a very strong singer, we would aim to grow them in their acting ability and movement. Intensive 2 is for advanced level students who would like to be challenged with a leading or supporting role. Intensive 2 roles will also have lines to memorize with more demanding solos and vocal work and choreography. These roles are limited to: Toto, Dorothy, the Lion, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, the Good Witch, the Wicked Witch and Aunt Em, Uncle Henry, and The Wizard. * The Emerald City Intensive 1 students will be comprised of more “green” actors, who may have none to some experience, and are budding as performers. They will perform in the theatre twice. * Rehearsals begin following Labour day weekend, 2013 (See schedules below for more info). We begin by “gelling” the group together through get-to –know- you games. We begin blocking the scenes and teaching students stage directions and stage movement. We engage them in vocal warm-ups and exercises as well as improv games to help develop their acting skills. The instructors research and develop theatre games to challenge the students and further their acting range and comfort level on stage. The Vocal Coaches teach the students how to breathe properly, sing on key, work with them on their solos, ensembles and harmonies and with expression! For experienced singers, a focus on breath work for volume and control will be explored. For the dance component, actors will learn choreography challenging for their level and ability. * Behind the scenes, our stage manager designs the lighting for each scene, researches and edits sound effects for the production and the team resources props, costumes and set pieces to bring everything together! All of our dedicated staff are committed to making the production a success! *Children who wish to register for Intensive 1 need not audition. They are invited to visit our Open Houses in June where we involve them in drama exercises and movement to see their strengths and cast appropriately. Please bring a photo of your child. Anyone may audition for Intensive 2. Students will be cast into either Intensive 1 or 2. Casting will be decided by June 30, 2013.
